War here doesn't feel like a bad thing for the west as a whole. Just a threat designed to inflate oil prices and give Russia some fiscal breathing room and hopefully scare some western politicians to try and avoid it.

It's also an ideal time for Israel to strike, while Iran's friend Russia is stretched. Iran aid will flow away from Russia and Russia won't be able to aid Iran much either. 

The collective West 5 years ago was very anti war as a theme. It feels that way of thinking is receding as we collectively accept that some things must be done for the greater good. 

Russia only respects strength. Show them strength.

Iran isn't capable of full scale war at this point. They've wasted significant parts of their rocket arsenal in the October 2024 barrage (most were intercepted or didn't hit targets of value/anything at all). They're firing the rest at Israel now. All the while Israel has near total air superiority over Iran. Iran can't go through Syria in a ground war because guess what? Their militias were thrown out, Assad is gone and Israel has (drumroll) total airspace control over Syria (and are regularly bombing it's military infrastructure to cripple Syria for decades). Israel saw the chance and us reshaping their entire security architecture in the Middle East. Knocking out enemy after enemy. Hesbollah after pushing into Lebanon weakened, Hamas close to wiped out (including a "small" genocide in Gaza), Assads Syria finally gone. Iran depleted of its munitions through the Ukraine war (and internally unstable through mounting anti regime protests in 2022 and certain concessions) --&gt; now ripe for the bombings. 
As weird as that sounds today, Israel is in a great spot to have most of their security goals met until 2026.

A 'full-scale war' is meaningless in this context.
Iran's not going to march its army across Iraq and Syria to Israel's border, they'd just get bombed a few days in.
All Iran has are their ballistic missiles and even if Israel doesn't destroy the launchers soon, the missiles will run out in a few weeks at most unless they ration them to a few a day.

From a tactical standpoint, Iran should’ve stopped dealing with Russia as soon as they saw that the Ukrainian invasion started to take 2 months vs 2 weeks. They should’ve abandoned Russia like Russia has now abandoned Tehran and how poorly they assisted the Assad Regime.

Focusing on their relationship with China would’ve weakened Russia, whom they owe no favors, and granted them greater protection against Israel.

Why they stood so long on that sinking ship I’ll never know, incompetence all around

Apparently encrypted radio chatter is up in the US military so this headline is concerning. But at the same time most of Russia’s military is tied up fighting Ukraine so I really don’t see how they could attack Israel in any meaningful way and keep the Ukraine offensive going. Maybe they’ll split fire or something, but I don’t see that being very effective… unless they push the big red button. 

That would be an unpredictable scenario because Israel is pretty vilified on the global stage right now, so there wouldn’t be a whole lot of countries willing to catch a nuke for them. And the countries with leadership in Putins pocket certainly wouldn’t.

Unlikely, unless the US gets involved, Isreal simply has zero force projection capability.  To project force well beyond your own borders you need significant air, sea or rail lift capabilty as well as logistics trains capable of supporting an expeditionary force.  Israel has none of this.

Russia is getting somewhat favorable treatment from Trump. He’s pushing to ease sanctions, holding back Ukraine aid, etc.. Russia helping Iran would most likely mean Trump would turn against Putin. Russia is also not in the best position to help Iran. 

I’m more surprised that other parties like China, Pakistan or North Korea aren’t offering any help. Even if they are not biggest Iranian allies, they have the capability and if Iran falls they’ll get 1 place higher on US agenda.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I have a feeling that (especially if this war doesn't go well for Iran which it likely won't) Russia is gonna stab Iran in the back and ditch them to join forces with Israel/USA. This is why:

**1** \-  At the moment Russia has facilities to produce both Shahed drones and its parts (the latter was still shipped from Iran for a long time), so they don't need Iran when it comes to military resources. They'd need Iran for mutual defense but if there's a chance to replace them with Israel or even USA, that's a better deal for Russia.

**2** \- Putin, Trump and Netanyahu have already been cozying up to each other. One of such examples was the UN motion to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where [the only 3 major nations to vote against were Russia, Israel and USA](https://www.timesofisrael.com/in-shift-israel-votes-against-un-motion-reaffirming-ukraines-territorial-integrity/). Even Iran decided to abstain on that one.

**3** \- Iran can provide Russia with extra firepower, but it's not an insurance in a war against the EU. If Russia wishes to pursue that path as [European intelligence keeps stating](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/german-intel-warns-russia-could-attack-nato-country-in-near-future-reports/3522816), Iran is not much of a trump card.

**4** \- When Trump first withheld aid to Ukraine and Trump/Vance had that spat with Zelensky, that was also when he proposed to Netanyahu taking Gaza and "making a riviera out of it". I'm not suggested this was "planned among the three" or anything like that, but the validation of landgrabs from either nation seems to be a pattern from Trump. Given this and his previous statement, it's unfortunately not very hard to imagine a situation where Russia attacks the EU and the USA either stays neutral or takes their side using "the Greenland problem" as an excuse.

**5** \- Both Putin and Netanyahu have been using the "The West is targeting us" narrative, in particular mentioning the ICC capture mandate. Trump has already sanctioned the ICC over it.

Given Russia's reluctance in aiding their "ally" and how they've been recently aligning with Israel, I'm pretty sure that given the chance they'll stab Iran in the back faster than a former chef leading a mercenary group if Israel finds the agreement mutually beneficial, which tbh they might since there's not much aid from Europe coming their way at this point and the USA (their major aid provider) under Trump has already shown to be closer to Russia than to the EU.
